Monument of Taras Shevchenko
The monument of Taras Shevchenko is situated in Taras Shevchenko Park opposite Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev (Kyiv) Ukraine. It is located in a beautiful park in the centre of Kiev and easily accessible via public transport or comfortable walking distance from the main street Khreschatyk. This is a great area to explore and yet another hidden gem in a city that has so many super cool places to discover.

The monument of Taras Shevchenko in Kiev has a uniquely important place in Ukrainian history. He was a major figure of the Ukrainian national revival. Taras Shevchenko was a man of universal talent. He dedicated his life and creative talent to the people of Ukraine. He is known as the Ukrainian national poet, artist and great patriot of Ukraine.
The Statue of Ukraine's most famous poet is situated at the northern entrance of the park named after him. It is a colossal, imposing statue looking towards the University, directly across the street from the deep red building of National University (also known as Shevchenko University). At one end of the Park you can see local people playing chess. There is also another monument within the park called "Babushka Sculpture".
Shevchenko Park in Kiev is a great place to visit and the monument of Taras Shevchenko should certainly be on your sightseeing list.
Taras Shevchenko Park
This is a truly delightful park full of life yet calm and tranquil in the heart of the city surrounded by nature.
The park is close to Taras Shevchenko University and the Taras Shevchenko monument is located across the street opposite the university. It is not a large park but large enough to feel completely out of the city. There are cafe's and a restaurant and a few street food stalls, a really nice place to have some refreshments in calm surroundings.
In the warmer months people of all ages gather to play chess in an open terraced area specifically designed for informal chess games. At weekends there are often free street performances and entertainment. There are also some interesting quirky statues sprinkled amongst the stunning fountains and nature.
